gifts are at the heart of the Community Foundation’s endowment. Anyone can become a donor, including individuals, groups, private foundations or businesses. It’s easy!Gifts can take the form of cash, stock or other securities, life
insurance or, upon Board approval, certain other assets. You can also
make planned gifts through bequests, charitable remainder trusts,
charitable lead trusts, IRAs, or pension funds. We encourage you to
discuss planned gifts with your tax or financial advisor. The Community Foundation also accepts gifts made on your Visa or
MasterCard. While at the present time such gifts cannot be made through
this web site, we gladly accommodate such gifts by telephone, or you can
download a form to send through the mail by
clicking here. If you would like to make a gift of stock to the Community
Foundation, please be in touch with us by phone prior to making the gift
so that we can explain the procedure you need to follow with the
investment brokerage house. Questions regarding gifts of stock may be
directed to Gina Allabaugh, the Foundation’s Finance Officer, or Colleen
Springsteen, Office Assistant, at (607) 772-6773. And new for 2006 and 2007 only, if you’re at least 70 ½ years of age,
you can direct that a gift – up to $100,000 each year – be made to the
CommuniFund™ (the Foundation’s
general fund) or other fund at the Foundation directly from your IRA,
without having to first declare the gift as income. Ask your financial
advisor for more details. Note, however, that by law such gifts cannot
be made to Donor Advised Funds. Community Foundation staff is always available to answer questions
and provide information to help you choose the right giving option.
We’re happy to work with you and your professional advisor as you deal
with tax and estate planning issues relating to your gift. And if
setting up a new fund of your own within the Community Foundation is of
interest to you, we’ll gladly explain the details about policies
regarding such funds. For information tailored to your specific needs about making a gift
to the Community Foundation for South Central New York, please contact
Executive Director Diane Brown or Finance Officer Gina Allabaugh at
772-6773 or at the address on the bottom of this page. You may also
reach us via e-mail by clicking here.
